It all started with a Poster
In January of 2011, shortly after the Gabrielle Giffords shooting, a poster of Sarah Palin appeared on a San Francisco street. It was vile and vicious, the total opposite of who Sarah Palin is, and it offended someone so much that he decided to take action.
That person is Ray, and he turned to the community at www.hillbuzz.org for help.
Susan happened to read his plea and sent Ray a design for an upbeat Sarah poster; one that showed her as the shining light she is.
Early the next Sunday morning Ray made his way quietly through the streets of San Francisco. Furtively, he pasted up the joyous face of Sarah Palin, obliterating the memory of the hateful posters that had hung there days before.
This quiet act of resistance set off a flurry of press as the “Palin Poster Wars” became a national story.
It also began a unique partnership of activism and art.
“Essex and Orange 1773” exemplifies how a simple place and event can effect major change, for it was at this intersection in Boston that the Liberty Tree stood. In 1773, it was a gathering place for those Americans who stood against the tyranny of taxation, and struck a blow for independence at the Boston Tea Party.
We believe that we are now in the process of another battle for independence, and that this New Revolution will bring about a new era in America, an era of smaller government and more power in the hands of the people.
We also believe that our power stands in our willingness to stand up for our beliefs and show support for our principles. Our line of products is geared towards that goal, but instead of hitting people over the head with slogans we’ve decided to take another road. We prefer to win people over with color, whimsy, and fun. You won’t find nasty verbiage or offensive images here, it’s not our style. Instead we honor American heroes, both past and present, and revisit what makes us great as a nation.
We hope you enjoy your visit to Essex and Orange 1773. Learn some history, get involved, and check out the Right Style for the New Revolution. Can’t wait to see you there!
